At YourSurprise we believe that software is the key to creating unique and meaningful gifts. Our software supports the gifting moment between two people which we call a 'happy moment' and we aim to create 5.5 million happy moments in 2026. This will mean that on our busiest day we have around 100.000 gifts to ship.

Our software supports the full customer journey and beyond. From searching the gift on our webshop to personalizing it in our personalization tool and the ordering. But also automating our production process, having systems in place for handling stock, customer service and finances.

What will you do?

YourSurprise's goals for 2026 are ambitious. In order to achieve those goals we should redefine the way we create our software. In the past years we have worked on dividing our monolithic application, introducing new techniques and programming languages in the process. For example, a big part of our software now runs in Google Cloud run.

You, together with a diverse team, will build software which can either be building something from scratch or redefining older parts of our software. This software should work intuitively for our users, this can be our customers or our colleagues. Also it should work at scale, since we expect to have 100.000 gifts to sell and ship in 2026. Based on your interests or knowledge you will be working on projects as

• Refactoring our webshop code to be more composable, allowing us to adapt faster to the changing e-commerce environment;

• Developing API's, allowing our systems to connect with each other;

• Working together with stakeholders within the company to develop software that matches the user needs;

Where will you end up?

You will become part of team IT. Our team consists of 30 engineers and is very diverse from a lot of senior people who have been with YourSurprise for over 10 years to colleagues that just graduated and everything in between. Our team is divided into smaller autonomous teams which take responsibility for a domain or project within YourSurprise. Those teams operate with a high degree of autonomy but still tightly connected with the IT team within YourSurprise in terms of collaboration and sharing knowledge.
Within our team we have 17 software engineers, 5 data engineers / scientists, 3 support engineers, 3 leads and a dedicated tester. Meet our team:

Who are you?

You are an inquisitive and motivated developer with at least 5 years of demonstrable experience in Software Development. You have experience with frontend development or backend development but preferably both. Also important is:

• You have experience writing easily readable and maintainable code with PHP or TypeScript or another language;

• You are capable of (unit) testing and static analysis of this code;

• You are good at structuring complex projects;

• You are able to develop APIs that can be used in multiple places and at scale;

• You enjoy thinking about technical solutions to further improve business processes;

• You consider user experience an important part of the applications you build;

• You can transform your ideas to plans supported by your team.
